Did you know Lightweight Insulating Concrete can be installed under fluid-applied waterproofing?

The Project

In conjunction with the upcoming Sushi Samba restaurant project in West Hollywood, set to open in 2025 at the La Peer Building, the Lightweight Insulating Concrete (LWIC) system is being utilized to enhance the outdoor rooftop space. This ambitious development will feature a 17,500 square foot area with a 360-degree view and a retractable roof.

The LWIC system offers several significant benefits for this project:

  1. Enhanced R-Value: LWIC provides excellent thermal insulation, contributing to energy efficiency and comfort in various applications, which is crucial for a space designed for year-round use.
  2. Positive Drainage: The system is designed to facilitate effective drainage, preventing water accumulation and potential damage to the underlying structures, especially important given the rooftop setting.
  3. Customization for Constrained Spaces: LWIC can be easily tailored to fit tight footprints, making it an ideal choice in complex environments where multiple trades are working simultaneously, as is the case with this bustling West Hollywood site.
  4. Can be installed under a hot fluid waterproofing membrane.

How?

The installation process involves laying down the LWIC, followed by a mortar application and the installation of cement board. This sequence ensures proper bonding with the waterproofing (WP) membrane, optimizing the system’s effectiveness and durability against the elements.

For your next project, consider the LWIC system for its resilience and adaptability in outdoor construction applications. Contact us to explore how this solution can meet your specific needs.
