The Project

Can Lightweight Insulating Concrete (LWIC) be placed on wood structures? YES! Our recent project in San Francisco showcases its versatility across various structures. This impressive 34,000-square-foot facility will serve as a vibrant hub for the Priory community. The center features a mass timber design, complemented by advanced design-build MEP systems, emphasizing both innovation and sustainability.

A distinctive element of this project is the incorporation of 2# holey board into our LWIC system. While we typically use 1# holey board, the need for enhanced load-bearing capacity in specific exterior areas warranted this denser option. The outcome is a seamless installation of LWIC material, ensuring excellent bearing capacity, fire ratings, and insulation values.

Moreover, the flowable nature of the LWIC material facilitated the easy installation of several conduit lines embedded within the insulation.
