The Project
The Omaha Streetcar Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) required a load-reduction fill solution around an underground structure located near the new facility. Permeable cellular concrete was selected and placed in the area within approximately one week, allowing the project team to efficiently address both structural and groundwater-related concerns. The lightweight nature of the material helps reduce surcharge loads on the adjacent underground structure, while its permeable characteristics support groundwater movement and help mitigate potential drainage issues in the surrounding area. This installation provided a practical, efficient, and durable solution for supporting the new construction while reducing long-term risk associated with settlement, hydrostatic pressure, and excessive loading.
