The Project
The Anderson Dam Seismic Retrofit Project in Morgan Hill is making significant strides, particularly with the construction of a new emergency water release tunnel. This initiative is crucial for enhancing the dam’s safety and ensuring a reliable water supply for the community. Cell-Crete is at the forefront of providing specialized tunnel grout for various sections of the tunnel, where a large bulkhead is being constructed to grout the annular space surrounding the newly installed spillway pipes.
The specialty grout mix has been meticulously designed with several critical considerations to optimize performance. An anti-corrosion inhibitor has been incorporated into the mix to enhance the durability of the material, safeguarding the infrastructure against potential degradation over time. Additionally, to mitigate the heat of hydration, supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) have been added, and lift heights have been strategically limited during placement. Approximately 4,000 cubic yards (CY) of 60 pounds per cubic foot (PCF) material is being utilized to achieve a minimum compressive strength of 500 psi.
Moreover, the carefully engineered grout mix is also designed to function effectively at the joints along the newly lined tunnel sections, serving as seismic joints that contribute to the overall resiliency of the retrofit. This innovative approach underscores Cell-Crete’s commitment to cutting-edge engineering solutions that enhance the safety and reliability of water infrastructure.
