The Project

The Finney County Health Department and EMS Facility project in Garden City, KS, showcases the advantages of using lightweight insulating concrete (LWIC) for roof insulation systems. LWIC is increasingly favored in construction due to its exceptional thermal performance and fire safety properties.

In this project, our objective was to achieve an average R-value of R-30 while implementing a positive drainage slope of 1/4 inch per foot. To accomplish this, expanded polystyrene (EPS) boards of varying sizes are used to create the necessary slope before applying a minimum of 2 inches of LWIC on the surface. This method not only ensures effective drainage but also provides a robust substrate for adhering the roofing membrane.

In summary, lightweight insulating concrete is a highly effective and reliable choice for permanent roof insulation. Visit our website to learn more.
