The Project
PROJECT TYPE: Lightweight Cellular Concrete, Transportation
The original Van Buren Bridge, constructed in 1913, faced significant challenges, including vulnerability to seismic activity and traffic congestion due to its low clearance, weight restrictions, and narrow width. To address these issues, a new earthquake-ready bridge is being built on the same site.
Cellular concrete will be utilized in areas with poor subgrade. This lightweight fill offers excellent resiliency against differential settlement and reduces dynamic loading during seismic events. Thanks to its flowable nature and efficient production capabilities, placement cellular concrete can accommodate the small project footprint and reduce the need for heavy equipment needed to place large amounts of volume.
