The Kathryn F. Kirk Center for Comprehensive Cancer Care and Women’s Cancers at Huntsman Cancer Institute is an eight-story addition to the Huntsman Cancer Hospital, with an A/B Level to accommodate site slope. This 220,000 square-foot expansion will provide new state-of-the-art cancer care space.

In this project, we are placing Lightweight Cellular Concrete as tunnel and grotto backfill. LCC is being used as an effective backfill alternative in lieu of compacted soil because of its numerous beneficial properties. The use of self-compacting LCC made this project faster and safer because the pour site was a narrow area where compaction would be difficult. Additional benefits of LCC include low density, high durability, low permeability, and high freeze-thaw resistivity. LCC allows a very economical retaining wall design as the lightweight results in a reduction of the static and dynamic earth pressures.
