About The Marin and Napoleon Rail Bridge Replacement Project

PROJECT LOCATION

San Francisco, California

COMPLETION DATE

2021

This heavy rail Caltrain project will make critical improvements to the Marin Street and Napoleon Street bridges in San Francisco. Inspection of the Napoleon Street Bridge revealed deterioration and corrosion, deeming the bridge structurally deficient. The bridge will be replaced to ensure it meets seismic safety standards and required structure life.

The Solution

Design improvements for the Napoleon Street bridge include removal of existing concrete girders and replacement of steel girders. The concrete girders that once supported the bridge were replaced with a concrete block retaining wall and a cellular concrete backfill. We were able to minimize Caltrain rider impact and delays due to the speed of cellular concrete installation.
